Enjoyed meeting Stateside with San Diego friends who we traveled to Rwanda with at Borders on Thursday and the small group of people that turned out to discuss Buddha’s Wife. It was a nice surprise to hear several in attendance say that their book clubs were reading and enjoying the book. We also discussed gender differences and the questions surrounding the debate about learned or inherited behavior of females and males.

I've always loved the energy of Portland and it was a real pleasure staying with relatives Christine and Michael and meeting a kindred spirit at New Renaissance Books named Terra. Also met an interesting woman while waiting for the plane to Portland. Her name is Suze Rutherford and she does training's around the country for youth, adults, schools, businesses and organizations. Her center is called TrainingWeal and the workshops, classes and groups she leads are called Cultivating Kindness, Reviving The Wonder, Getting Our Butts In Gear, Lending A Hand and Finding Our Voice. Check out her website at: www.trainingweal.org.

Some wonderful readers made their way to Gateway through the storms to discuss and hear about, Buddha’s Wife. There was heartfelt sharing of personal experiences in monastic spiritual life and the question of balancing one’s practice in “the world”, as a householder and citizen, as well as the dichotomy in rights (past and present) for women and men in Buddhist traditions.

What could be better than being surrounded by books, publishers, editors and writers for 2 days and sharing my story about Buddha’s Wife with all who stopped by?! To top it off, I got to hang out with my mother, daughter, son-in-law and grandson! Wonderful to see everyone who stopped by.
Join Gabriel, Leyla and Stuart and listen to the conversation about Buddha’s Wife.
Manifesting The Positive Radio’s host, Stuart, was most gracious and insightful. We talked about suffering, grief, loss and change and the ways people learn how to live with such or simply survive and go through life on automatic. He just finished acting in a play about imprisonment during the Civil War called Andersonville and was able to share many correlations between that history and our present knowledge of similar acts. Interspersed throughout the conversation, were references to Buddha’s Wife and the way it portrays suffering, loss, inspiration and compassion. You can download an mp3 of the show at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/mtpradio.

What a wonderful evening! The book event was packed with friends, family and readers from all over Santa Cruz County and a few folks from out of town. Janet, the events coordinator, provided a wonderful introduction and there was plenty of time to converse with others about the book afterwards. I was touched to see how many people chose to be their. The entire night was captured on camera for Community TV's Book TV program and will be shown several times in the coming months.

Gabriel Constans presents Buddha’s Wife on stage in Toronto at 3:30 pm (EST) at Masala! Mehndi! Masti! - the largest multi-disciplinary South Asian Arts festival outside of South Asia! Over 100,000 people attended last year at Toronto’s Exhibition Place! Visit their web site at: www.MasalaMehndiMasti.com
It was an exciting time at the festival, in spite of the thunder and lightening storms which put somewhat of a damper on the outdoor activities. I saw beautiful art, clothes, dance and music and appreciate all the incredible amount of work and effort that goes into the event. The Queen Elizabeth Theater was the largest venue I've ever spoken in and the reading went well. The highlight of the trip was getting to meet two other Toronto writers who treated me like a brother. Curry Is Thicker Than Water) and Gemma Meharchand shared many of their insights, experiences and thoughts, while we sat together at the author table, and provided a glimpse of their lives growing up in Bombay and South Africa and about living in Toronto. I am grateful for their generosity, kindness and humor.
